Yusmeiro Alberto Petit is an active Major League Baseball player who has pitched for the Florida Marlins (2006), Arizona Diamondbacks (2007-2009), San Francisco Giants (2012-2015), Washington Nationals (2016), Los Angeles Angels (2017), and Oakland Athletics (2018). Yus, his nickname, played for a winning Little League World Series and Major League Baseball World Series team!

Did you know that Yusmeiro Petit set a Major League record for consecutive batters retired in a single season in 2014, retiring forty-six consecutive batters? The record setting streak started on July 22, 2014 , and ended on August 28, 2014 , when he struck out Charlie Culberson . The next batter, Jordan Lyles (the pitcher), ended the streak when he doubled to left field with two outs in the third inning.

In the post game press conference, Petit said, "I was a little nervous when the hitters were advancing toward the record. But in that pitch to the pitcher ( Jordan Lyles ), I was not nervous. I was doing my job. The first pitch was fine. The second pitch was fine, too, but it slid a little bit where I didn't want it to."

The previous record holders were Mark Buehrle (45 consecutive batters retired in 2009), Jim Barr (41 consecutive batters retired in 1972), and Bobby Jenks (41 consecutive batters retired in 2007).
