Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"With his third World Series championship in five seasons and a 2012 National League Most Valuable Player Award accompanied by a batting title , the Giants ' Buster Posey is charting a compelling course to join an exclusive club of legendary catchers in the Hall of Fame. Since Major League Baseball became all-inclusive in 1947, Roy Campanella , Yogi Berra , Johnny Bench , Carlton Fisk and Gary Carter are receivers who have achieved induction in Cooperstown, N.Y., by virtue of mastering their highly challenging position while also managing to deliver handsomely with the bat. Posey and Cardinals great Yadier Molina are the headliners in a current crop of athletes intent on making this era memorable at the most important non-pitching position on the field." - By Lyle Spencer / MLB.com (January 22, 2015, 'Posey poised to join all-time greats behind the plate', Source )

Did you know that Buster Posey was the ninth catcher to win a Rookie of the Year Award , the sixth catcher from the National League to win, and the first San Francisco Giants catcher to receive the honor? Those who came before Buster were Johnny Bench (1968), Thurman Munson (1970), Earl Williams (1971), Carlton Fisk (1972), Benito Santiago (1987), Sandy Alomar, Jr. (1990), Mike Piazza (1993) and Geovany Soto (2008).

Did you know that Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner each hit a grand slam in the same game on July 13, 2014 ? Did you know it was the first time in Major League history that a catcher and a pitcher each hit a grand slam in the same game?

Buster Posey was the battery-mate for Matt Cain on June 13, 2012 , the first perfect game in San Francisco Giants history . On July 13, 2013 , Posey was behind the plate when Tim Lincecum threw his first no-hitter. However, when The Baby-Faced Assassin threw his second no hitter, on June 25, 2014 , Posey was playing first base. On June 9, 2015 , Posey was behind the plate when Chris Heston no-hit the Mets in Citi Field. Posey's three no-hitters caught are the most in franchise history and tied for second most in the National League, one behind Carlos Ruiz (the American League record is four also, held by Jason Varitek ). Buster Posey Baseball Card, Batting Champion
Buster Posey | 2013 Topps Heritage (#7) | Baseball Almanac Collection
When Buster Posey won a batting championship in 2012 , he was only the second San Francisco player to lead the league in batting average ( Barry Bonds won in 2002 and 2004 ), and the first catcher in the National League to lead since Hall of Fame backstop Ernie Lombardi won it in 1942. Lombardi had also led the National League in 1938 , joined Bubbles Hargrave ( 1926 ) as the only other NL catcher to win, making Posey just the third backstop in the elite "club".
