On May 10, 1988, Jerry Reuss told The Los Angeles Times (Times Wire Service, 05/10/1988, 'Reuss Gets His 200th Victory', Source ), "I thought about it a lot this winter. I didn't know if I'd get the opportunity. There's not a lot of demand for old guys who've had arm operations and are coming off not a very good season." The opportunity he was hoping for, winning his 200th Major League game, which he did on May 9, 1988 .

After winning that two-hundredth game, Jerry Reuss became only the second pitcher in Major League history with 200-career victories, without ever recording a single 20-win season during their big league career. Do you know who that first twirler was? [ Answer ]

When the Pittsburgh Pirates called-up Jerry Reuss to help fill in their 40-man roster , he was given an opportunity to pitch on September 7, 1990 , and became the nineteenth player in baseball history to take the field in four different decades , joining Nick Altrock , Dan Brouthers , Bill Buckner , Eddie Collins , Kid Gleason , Jim Kaat , Tim McCarver , Willie McCovey , Deacon McGuire , Minnie Minoso , Bobo Newsom , Jack O'Connor , Jim O'Rourke , Jack Quinn , Jack Ryan , Mickey Vernon , Ted Williams and Early Wynn .

In 1980 , Jerry Reuss tossed a career high six shutouts, tops in the National League ( Top 25 ), including a three-hitter on June 6, 1980 , and a no-hitter on June 27, 1980 ! Our favorite news clipping:
