Joe Rudi won three consecutive (1974, 1975, 1976) Gold Glove Awards in the outfield for the Oakland Athletics , the fifth American League outfielder to win three in a row, joining Al Kaline (1957-1959, 1961-1967), Jim Landis (1960-1964), Carl Yastrzemski (1967-1969), Mickey Stanley (1968-1970), and Paul Blair (1969-1975).

Joe Rudi was the first player from the OAKLAND Athletics to ever win a Gold Glove Award at any position. When the franchise was still located in Kansas City Athletics , Vic Power won a Gold Glove Award at first base in 1958, but Rudi was the first in Oakland and the first outfielder in team history.

Joe Rudi, Angels Walk Off Home Run
Joe Rudi (1-0 Walk-Off Home Run) | The Pantograph | April 14, 1978 | 20
On April 13, 1978 , Joe Rudi, at Anaheim Stadium, in the bottom of the eleventh inning, with one out, the score tied 0-0, Minnesota Twins pitcher Tom Johnson on the mound, hit the 126th home run of his career - an extra-inning walk-off blast that was also the first 1-0 game in Angels history to end with a walk-off home run.

On August 10, 1972 , Joe Rudi hit another memorable walk-off home run, the thirty-ninth in his career, at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, in the bottom of the nineteenth inning, with one out, score tied 3-3, Chicago White Sox pitcher Stan Bahnsen on the mound - the extra-inning walk-off blast was latest, in terms of innings, walk off in Athletics history (passing the 17th inning walk-off hit by Mule Haas on August 22, 1928 , when the franchise was still in Philadelphia ).

Countless firsts occurred that historic day including the home run hit by Joe Rudi in the third inning off Diego Segui , the first Mariners pitcher to surrender a home run and the first home run ever hit in the Kingdome.
