Harold Henry Schumacher was a Major League Baseball player who pitched in the majors from 1931 to 1942, and 1946, always with the New York Giants . Prince Hal, as he was nicknamed, served in the US Navy from 1942-45, during World War II. Some numbers of interest:

1 - Hal Schumacher joined the 20 Wins Club once, in 1934 , and finished second ( Top 25 ) in wins that season. Do you know who was first? [ Answer ]

2 - Hal Shumacher was a two-time All-Star . He did not get an opportunity to pitch during the 1933 All-Star Game , so made up for it during the 1935 All-Star Game , striking out five American League All-Stars over four innings of work.

3 - Hal Shumacher won 15 or more games over three consecutive seasons, 1933 (19-12), 1934 (23-10) and 1935 (19-9).

8 - Hal Shumacher was a workhorse for the New York Giants , reaching the 200 innings pitched plateau in eight different seasons!

Hal Schumacher pitched in some amazing games during his career, winning 158, throwing 138 complete contests, and shutting out his opponent 27 times. He never had a no hitter, but he did throw ten 3-hit games, two 2-hit games, and two 1-hitters. His obituary, however, mentions this, "Against the New York Yankees in the 1936 Series , he hurled a 10-inning, 5-4 victory with 10 strikeouts in Game 5 , highlighted by an escape from a bases-loaded, none-out game in the third inning. he struck out Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig , and retired Bill Dickey on a fly to right field."
