Mark Teixeira Stats

Mark Teixeira was born on Friday, April 11, 1980, in Annapolis, Maryland. Teixeira was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 1, 2003, with the Texas Rangers. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Mark Teixeira baseball stats page.

"I was definitely happy and excited inside (after hitting for the cycle on August 17, 2004 ), but you don't want to be celebrating in a situation (winning 16-1 at the time) like that. Triples are a weird thing, especially for a guy like me. You need some bounces, you need a big outfield. For me, they're few and far between. They (his teammates) were kidding me, telling me to trip over first base (to get the single) if I hit one into the gap." - Mark Teixeira (Associated Press, August 18, 2004)

Do you know why Mark Teixeira wore #23 ? Sports Illustrated (Me and My Number; August 28, 2006; Page 35) had the following article: Having Yankees star Don Mattingly 23 as an idol was frowned upon when Teixeira was a kid in Baltimore. "I'd wear a Mattingly shirt to ( Orioles ) games," says Teixeira, who endured epithets from O's fans. When he played, some thought the 23 was for Michael Jordan, but Teixeira was all about Mattingly . "I just loved the way he played, I loved his swing."

Did you know that Mark Teixeira - a switch hitter - has stepped to the plate, hit a home run batting lefty, came to the plate later in the same game, and hit a home run batting righty, a Major League record fourteen times? That's three times more than Eddie Murray , four times more than Mickey Mantle , and eight times more than Chipper Jones . [ Home Run from Each Side of the Plate in a Game ]

Did you know that Mark Teixeira drove in 144 runs in 2005, setting a new Major League record for most RBI by a switch hitter in a season ? The previous record holders were Mickey Mantle in the American League (130 RBI in 1956) and George Davis in the National League (135 RBI in 1897), the latter mark has since been broken by Lance Berkman (136 RBI in 2006). [ Runs Batted In Records ]

Did you know that Mark Teixeira has amassed eight 100-RBI seasons during his career, second most in Major League history amongst switch hitters, tied with Carlos Beltran , one less than Chipper Jones .

On June 2, 2013 , Tex played in his 1,500th career game and entered the contest with three-hundred thirty eight career home runs and 1,101 career runs batted in - the most RBI by any switch-hitter in baseball history through 1,500 games, the second most home runs, behind hall of famer Mickey Mantle (359 HRs at that point in his career).
