Joe Tepsic was born on Tuesday, September 18, 1923, in Slovan, Pennsylvania. Tepsic was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 12, 1946, with the Brooklyn Dodgers. "He (Joe Tepsic) served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was wounded in Guadalcanal during WWII. Following his military service, he attended Penn State University , where he was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball. There he met and married his wife, Margaret A. Sherry.
