Mickey Vernon was a two-time batting champion , hitting .353 in 1946 & .337 in 1953. President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented Vernon with a silver bat on April 13, 1954 , for winning the battle title, then watched Mickey hit a game-winning home run in the tenth inning off Allie Reynolds of the Yankees.
