Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"It's official - Detroit released Rich Reese unconditionally Friday, and brought 20-year-old rookie Tom Veryzer from its Toledo farm club in the International League. You're going to like Veryzer," General Manager Jim Campbell said. "He's real talkative. You can't shut him up. I talked to him before the game and said, 'you must be real thrilled to be up here in the big leagues for the first time,'" Campbell said. "He said, 'yep,' and walked away." - The Traverse City Record-Eagle (UPI, 08/11/1973, Tom Veryzer joins Tigers , Page 12)
