Bill Virdon won the 1955 Rookie of the Year , the second St. Louis Cardinals rookie to receive the honor, both of which were outfielders. Do you know what Cardinal rookie the Baseball Writers Association of America selected before The Milkshake Man won? [ Answer ]

Bill Virdon, seven years later (in 1962), won a Gold Glove Award , the second Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder to receive the honor. Do you know what Pirate outfielder Rawlings selected before The Milkshake Man won? [ Answer ]

Bill Virdon, twelve years later (in 1974 / with the New York Yankees / 89 wins, 73 losses), won The Sporting News Manager of the Year Award , the first former Rookie of the Year to win a Manager of the Year Award .

The Sporting News had honored a Manager of the Year annually, since 1936. Several baseball managers won it more than once, but when Bill Virdon captured his second in 1980, he was manager of the Houston Astros , becoming the first skipper to receive the honor once at the helm of an American League team, and once at the helm of a National League team, the latter being the first ever won by an Astros manager .

On January 3, 1974, the Bronx Bombers signed Bill Virdon to manager of the New York Yankees . The former manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates skipper managed for two years in New York , winning 89 games in 1974, and 53 games in 1975, but not one game in Yankee Stadium ! How is that possible? The House That Ruth Built was being renovated and the Yanks played all home games in Shea Stadium, in 1974 and 75!
