Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"I've never been a guy who's had that leadership role. Even in college [at California State University, Long Beach ], I was always a leader by example. I'm not a vocal person. Now that Lackey's gone, I'm probably going to be a little more vocal if I need to be. I'm going to try to help out as much as possible." - Jered Weaver on MLB.com (Lyle Spencer, 02/19/2010, 'Leadership role new for Weaver', Source )

Jered Weaver made his Major League debut on May 27, 2006, starting against the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched seven shutout innings, striking out five, and earning the victory. This was followed with three more consecutive victories. Despite his success, when Bartolo Colon returned from the disabled list, Weaver was bumped out of the rotation and sent back down to the minors. He was recalled to the majors on June 30, 2006, when the Angels designated his brother Jeff Weaver for assignment!

In an ongoing memorial, Jered Weaver writes the initials "NA" in the dirt on the back of the pitcher's mound before each of his starts in honor of former teammate Nick Adenhart who was killed in a car crash by a drunk driver shortly after midnight on April 9, 2009.
