In 1988, Jim Gott set a new Pittsburgh Pirates record for saves in a season, successfully closing down opponents (in save situations) a team record thirty-four times. In 2002, Mike Williams crushed the mark, saving forty-six games, the first Bucs twirler to ever save at least forty-games during the same season. Do you know what closer finally broke Williams' record? Clue, it took place in 2015. [ Answer ]

The Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1982 to honor and preserve the memory of athletes, coaches, administrators and staff members who have made outstanding contributions to athletics at the university (Source: Virginia Tech website, 2016, Full List ). In 2004, Mike Williams entered the Hokies Hall of Fame, their seventeenth baseball inductee.

Did you know that Mike Williams holds one not-so-famous record; he remains, through today, the Major League pitcher with the highest earned run average (ERA) to ever make an All-Star team (6.44 ERA at the All-Star Break / 2003 All-Star Game ).
