"I definitely like anywhere I can get on the field. I just want to be in that lineup. If I'm playing somewhere I'm not used to playing on a regular basis, I just try to do the best I can at that position. I feel like, defensively, wherever they stick me, I can help the team." - Ben Zobrist on MLB.com (Cheng Sio, 06/18/09, 'Zorilla drawing comparisons to other super-utility players')

On September 2, 2006 , Ben Zobrist was playing shortstop for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays , at Tropicana Field. The Seattle Mariners had a man on third ( Jose Lopez ) and a man on first ( Adrian Beltre ) with Raul Ibanez at the plate, no outs. As Ibanez struck out, Beltre broke for second, but was tagged out by Zobrist. As Beltre was trying to steal second, Lopez tried to steal home, and Zobrist threw to the catcher, Dioner Navarro , who tagged out Lopez for the third out, the first catcher-to-shortstop-to-catcher (2-6-2) triple play in baseball history.

Did you know that Ben Zobrist set the Tampa Bay Rays franchise record for runs batted in (RBI) during a game when he drove in eight on April 28, 2011 ? The previous mark of seven was set by first baseman Carlos Pena , on September 5, 2007 .

Did you know that Ben Zobrist hit his one-hundredth career home run on August 13, 2013 ? The leadoff homer was one of two long balls hit by Zobrist that day and the opposing leadoff batter, Brad Miller , also had two, including a leadoff shot. The only other time in baseball history where both leadoff hitters started a game with a home run, then each hit another long ball in the same game, took place on June 5, 1994 ( Tony Phillips and Chuck Knoblauch ).
