Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"The Boston Globe called him a 'brainy player' and Ned Hanlon acquired both Deacon and the Duke to handle his hurlers in Brooklyn. They cropped two flags there. Duke was spiked in 1901 and missed many days due to blood poisoning. He was sick again in 1902. 'Had Farrell been in shape to do duty behind the bat the Superbas would have won all five games with Boston,' wrote Tim Murnane." - Historian Rich Eldred in Nineteenth Century Stars (1989)
