Frankie Frisch Stats

Frankie Frisch was born on Thursday, September 9, 1897, in Bronx, New York. Frisch was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on June 17, 1919, with the New York Giants. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Frankie Frisch baseball stats page.

"What a difference! After those stern years with the regimented Giants, to be in a baseball group where everybody was happy and relaxed, having a good time, enjoying their work. We worked hard, all right, but it was different. There was nobody standing over you with a whip in his hand, telling you to do it his way, or else." - Frankie Frisch in The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract (Bill James, Free Press Publishing, '100 Greatest at Second Base. 11. Frankie Frisch,' 06/13/2003, Page 492)

Baseball Digest (December 1995, 'The Wrong Indian', Page 19) wrote, "Larry Goetz, a well-known National League umpire, once told a story about the one time manager Frankie Frisch who innocently walked up to an umpire that just made a sour decision. The arbiter braced himself for the worst. But the Flash was friendly. 'Say,' he asked, 'have you a cigar in your pocket?' "Why should I have a cigar?' questioned the surprised umpire. 'I thought you might,' explained Frisch and then snapped: 'Because you certainly looked like a cigar-store Indian on that play!'"

Did you know that Frankie Frisch was the first National League (NL) second baseman ever selected to appear in an All-Star Game ( 1933 )? He went on to be the first two-time NL All-Star second baseman ( 1933 - 1934 / a back-to-back first), then in 1935 , The Fordham Flash made even more unique history -- being named to the Midsummer Classic as a second baseman, but also as manager , due to him being a player-manager with the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals !

During his final season, Frankie Frisch appeared in only seventeen games, stepped up to the plate only thirty-two times, and only struck out, wait, he didn't ever strike out that year, and if you review his stats, you'll notice that during his nineteen year career, the most times he ever struck out during a season was twenty-eight times!
