Yulieski Gourriel is an active Major League Baseball player for the Houston Astros (2016-Today). Yuli, his nickname, defected from Cuba in 2016, and made his Major League debut with the Astros that same season, becoming the eighth Cuban -born player in franchise history, joining Roman Mejias , Mike Cuellar , Aurelio Monteagudo , Marty Martinez , Sandy Valdespino , Oscar Zamora , and Raul Valdes .

Did you know that Yuli Gourriel set Astros rookie records for doubles (43), total bases (257), extra-base hits (62), and slugging percentage (.485) in 2017? Two of those records were set by Hall of Famers, the total bases mark was previously set by Joe Morgan (251 in 1965), and the slugging percentage mark was previously set by Jeff Bagwell (.437 in 1991)!
